What We Do In The Shadows: Will There Be A Season 7?

The undead are back one last time! FX’s What We Do in the Shadows has returned for its sixth – and final – season, bringing the curtain down on one of the most bizarre and beloved vampire comedies ever made. With Guillermo finding himself (again), the vampires facing their eternal failures, and one very unwelcome blast from the past, Season 6 ties up the chaotic saga of Staten Island’s most dysfunctional household. Here's everything you need to know about the last chapter – and why there won’t be a Season 7.

It’s been a gloriously blood-soaked run, but after six seasons of undead mischief, bat transformations, awkward roommate meetings, and energy-draining small talk, FX’s What We Do in the Shadows has reached its end. Season 6 premiered on October 21, 2024, and with it, the vampires' story is finally brought to a (more or less) conclusive end.

But of course, this being a show about eternal beings, one question looms large for fans: Will there be a Season 7 of What We Do in the Shadows?

Will There Be A Season 7 Of What We Do In The Shadows?

Let’s rip the band-aid off: No, Season 6 is the final season. FX confirmed back in December 2023 that this would be the end of the line for Staten Island’s most dysfunctional vampire flatshare. And now that Season 6 has aired, it’s clear that the showrunners meant it – the story arcs are wrapped up, fangs have been sheathed (for now), and the crypt door is firmly closed.

It’s bittersweet, but creatively it makes sense. The series was extended for a fifth and sixth season simultaneously in 2022, giving the writers plenty of time to plan an actual ending – a luxury most comedies about immortal beings don’t get.

What We Do In The Shadows Season 6: The Plot

So, how did it all go down? Season 6 picks up with Guillermo (Harvey Guillén) rethinking his place in the world – and specifically, his place in the vampire household. After the chaos of his brief transformation (and even briefer stint as a vampire), he decides to leave the mansion… or at least, move into the backyard. Turns out, even ex-familiar vampire hybrids can't afford rent these days.

Meanwhile, Nandor (Kayvan Novak), Laszlo (Matt Berry), and Nadja (Natasia Demetriou) are forced to face their eternal failures when their former roommate Jerry (Mike O’Brien) wakes from a 50-year nap and points out the obvious: they’ve achieved basically nothing in the last half-century. Ouch.

Jerry quickly becomes a thorn in their immortal sides, especially after being declared the new leader of the local vampire community. Our not-so-heroic trio must now find a new way to prove their worth – and maybe finally take a stab at (un)life goals beyond bloodsucking and clubbing.

And yes, Colin Robinson (Mark Proksch) is still draining energy with the efficiency of a broken printer support call, and Kristen Schaal returns as the ever-weird Guide.

Why Season 6 Is The End

The decision to end with Season 6 wasn’t sudden. FX gave the creators enough notice to craft a real finale rather than leave things hanging like a half-drained victim. Filming wrapped in May 2024, and the final season makes good on its promise to give each character a proper send-off – even if "proper" in vampire terms still involves blood, betrayal, and existential crisis.

Sure, we’ll miss the endless roommate squabbles and Laszlo’s unprintable vocabulary. But in a world of shows that drag on undead for too many seasons, What We Do in the Shadows leaves the stage while it's still fresh, funny, and full of bite.

The Legacy Of What We Do In The Shadows

From its roots as a cult hit movie to a six-season FX series, What We Do in the Shadows redefined horror-comedy on TV. With its blend of mockumentary weirdness, gothic absurdity, and genuinely endearing characters, it built a universe where the undead felt strangely alive.

No Season 7? No problem. This is one coffin we can close with a smile (and maybe a fang).
