Fortnite Finally Gets First-Person Mode

According to a recent leak, Epic Games is currently working on a first-person view for Fortnite. This could completely change the game, so here are the details.

Fortnite has long been known for its third-person perspective, which allows players to see their surroundings and structure their creations accurately and according to their opponent's positioning. According to a new leak, though, the game could join the world of first-person shooters with a brand-new camera setting...

Epic Games Working on a First-Person View for Fortnite

According to a Tweet from our Favorite Fortnite leaker HYPEX, who has always been a reliable source for Fortnite leaks in the past, Epic Games have started developing a first-person camera mode even during the Chapter 3, Season 3 cycle. Please keep in mind, though, that this is all unverified and should not be taken as gospel.

More specifically, he writes:

This update Epic began working on some stuff about first person camera mode but there's no other info about it at the moment as it looks like it's still in early development. Would work REALLY well for the Zero Build Modes

We think that it's clear that a first-person mode in a normal build-mode would be pretty awful. In the end, building and fighting is hard enough as it is. HYPEX mentions, however, that the first-person camera mode could be specifically suited for Fortnite's No-Build mode, where players don't need to think about building.

However, some fans were concerned that not being able to see your skins could diminish the value of cosmetics in the game. That would be a problem for Epic Games, who get most of their Fortnite-money from exactly that, so we doubt that they would do-away entirely with third person.

Additionally, we could see the introduction of new and edgier weapon skins, possibly similar to Valorant's system. At least, we think that the lack of skin visibility is definitely the smallest problem here.

When Will The First-Person Fortnite Mode Be Released?

HYPEX has confirmed that Epic Games have yet to officially announce this mode, as it appears to still be in early development. We expect that this mode will appear in Chapter 3, Season 4 at the very earliest. Whether Epic Games will change their mind about the first-person shooter view altogether, though, remains to be seen.
