We have multiple new Assassin's Creed games coming up, most prominently the live-service game Infinity and the Valhalla spin-off with the codename Rift. Not much has been officially revealed about either of them yet, but we keep getting interesting leaks for the new Assassin's Creed games. And we got another one for you right here.

A video game insider revealed new details regarding the setting of the "next" Assassin's Creed gamebut which one could it be? And where will it take us? Check it out here.

Note: The original reported leak has been contested by other insiders and a new leaked setting has surfaced. Check out the details in the update section below.

Next Assassin's Creed Game Will Take Us To A Different Era

[Original]

This leak comes from Jeremy Penter on Twitter, a content creator and insider who covers a lot of different video games. He reliably leaked info on Ubisoft games in the past, so we trust him on this one as well. According to Jeremy, the "Next AC game will be Aztecs."

This is immediately super exciting. No Assassin's Creed game has taken us to this era of history yet and the Aztecs are a very fascinating people, offering tons of opportunity for cool gameplay mechanics and story elements.

BUT! As cool as this leak sounds... it does leave us feeling a bit confused. As you can see in the tweet, Jeremy literally only refers to the "next AC game". But which one could that be?

According to rumors, the next Assassin's Creed is supposed to be Rift, a spin-off to AC Valhalla that could be set in Baghdad. However, Valhalla is set in the 9th century. If you know anything about history (or peruse Wikipedia quickly enough), you will know that the Aztecs were thriving as a society from 1300 to 1521. So... something doesn't quite fit there.

That's why we believe that this leak refers to AC Infinity. We don't know much about the live-service game yet, but it has been rumored that it could feature multiple periods and locations in history. So, the Aztecs could be one of those.

Ubisoft have announced a showcase coming in September. The lineup hasn't been announced yet, but we are sure that we will see something about Assassin's Creed there... maybe even for both of these games.

[Update: July 15, 2022]

This week had the rumor mill churning without stop. First, we had the Aztec leak from ACG, aka Jeremy Penter. This has been refuted since, and by none other than Mr. Jason Schreier from Bloomberg. The man went to Reddit, where you can often find him clearing up some of the most ridiculous and contentious rumors. There, he set the score straight and confirmed the Baghdad setting for AC Rift. He also claimed, that the Aztec rumor is false. Here is what he said:

The next AC game is Rift, which is set in Baghdad. After that will be AC Infinity, and while that's going to include a bunch of different games/experiences/biomes/whatever you want to call them, I've heard about the main two and neither of them are Aztec.

Now, another legend has thrown their hat in the ring. It's the man, the myth, the legend, Mr. Jeff Grubb. The famous reporter and insider also heard something about the "next" Assassin's Creed, but this time there's no confusion what this is about: the Grubbster revealed on a livestream, that Assassin's Creed Infinity could be set in Japan.

Grubb has this from an inside source, however, he is not clear on whether the Japan setting applies to Infinity or an entirely different AC game. But Japan seems to be the setting for an upcoming Assassin's Creed. Looks like Ubisoft have decided to react to the success of Ghost of Tsushima by (finally) doing their own Japan adventure. But, this is still speculation, so don't take this for granted just yet.

Here is what Grubb said about this info. As you will see, he is not sure himself. Down below, you can also check out the relevant portion of the livestream.

Again, I can't confirm this, but since so much of the other stuff is true and I'm hearing this from the same source: the one coming up after all this other stuff, or maybe it is part of Infinite (sc), I don't know... but it will be much more like the RPG ones, and it's going to be set in Japan. I don't know.
