Few franchises have established themselves as genre-defining games like Assassin's Creed. It’s a staple of the gaming industry, as more than twelve mainline entries and seventeen spin-offs have been created in the name of Assassin's Creed.

Another entry into this franchise is arriving with Basim Ibn Ishaq from Valhalla, as an unexpected rift occurs between the Assassins and Templars. As you could probably tell, this upcoming entry is named Assassin’s Creed Rift. It plans to reset the franchise with a breath of fresh air as AC Rift returns to a classic gameplay format.

Rumors have suggested that Assassin's Creed Rift will return to this franchise’s classic gameplay style, as seen in AC Unity and AC Syndicate. Aren’t you excited? We are because this means older fans of Assassin's Creed will have another mainline entry game to experience. Personally, I found that Odyssey and Valhalla leaned too hard towards the open-world landscape.

Despite that personal opinion, Ubisoft is looking to expand Assassin's Creed into multiple game categories. Titles like AC Valhalla would be listed in the RPG category, while AC Rift would be listed as an action-adventure stealth game. However, Assassin's Creed Rift remains in development with no official announcement from Ubisoft.

Ubisoft will continue to develop Assassin's Creed Rift, with more information coming as official announcements are made. Until then, we have examined everything involved with this upcoming entry into Assassin's Creed. Read onwards to find out about the return of Basim Ibn Ishaq.

Is Assassin's Creed Rift Coming Out In 2022?

Rumors suggest that Assassin's Creed Rift could launch by Q4 2022. However, we doubt these rumors are true. Ubisoft hasn’t announced the development of AC Rift. We think that the upcoming announcement for Assassin's Creed will lean towards AC Infinity, which is supposed to be an MMORPG.

Assassin's Creed Infinity will be unlike anything we’ve seen in the franchise, as Ubisoft looks to create something similar to Elder Scrolls Online. Despite our confidence that the upcoming announcement revolves around AC Infinity, we are hopeful that Ubisoft will announce Assassin's Creed Rift in September 2022.

[Update: July 19, 2022]

We got another hint towards the release date for Assassin's Creed Rift. But be warned: this one comes from 4chan. So take it with a big, tasty chunk of salt. On there, one poster claimed to be an insider and revealed some supposed new details on the upcoming game. There, they said the following about the expected release date for Assassin's Creed Rift:

Release is projected for the end of this year in the hopes they can hit the Christmas rush, but by the time it gets announced in September, the date might get pushed back to Jan/Feb to allow the teams more time to polish.

So if this is true, we can expect Rift to come out at the end of this year. We definitely expect Ubisoft to try and reach that date, since they don't have anything from one of their big name titles slated for that lucrative Christmas market. Whether they will actually make it, is another matter entirely.

Assassin's Creed Rift: Game Setting, Story & Everything We Know

Assassin's Creed Rift is located in Baghdad, the Capital of Iraq. It’s slated to host other prominent cites throughout the Middle East, with some rumors suggesting that the Holy Land will return. But there haven’t been any confirmations on this leaked report. However, leaked announcements identify Basim Ibn Ishaq as the main character of AC Rift.

Anyone familiar with Assassin's Creed Valhalla will remember this character as the reincarnated host of Loki, and we’re thoroughly excited at the thought of Ubisoft reusing Basim Ibn Ishaq in another mainline entry of Assassin's Creed.

It’s noted that Basim was born and raised in Baghdad, where he would become a prominent & respected member of the Hidden Ones. He would become a Master Assassin and lead this ancient organization towards the Assassins Brotherhood.

It will be interesting to see if Basim Ibn Ishaq can stop Isu Loki from taking control of his consciousness. Remember, Loki is the God of Mischief. There isn’t anything he wouldn’t do to implicate his host, and that could have massive effects on how the Brotherhood was created. Ultimately, we won’t know more until Ubisoft announces Assassin's Creed Rift.

Are There Other Assassin's Creed's Coming Out?

Assassin's Creed Rift isn’t the exclusive game being launched under this franchise. Two additional games are coming soon, as Assassin's Creed Nexus looks to provide a comprehensive experience for Virtual Reality.

It’s rumored that AC Nexus is being developed in first-person perspective, as several Assassins like Ezio Auditore da Firenze and Edward Kenway will become playable characters. This means an engaging VR experience involving parkour & stealth will be made available through Assassin’s Creed Nexus.

Ubisoft is also developing Assassin's Creed Infinity, an upcoming live-service game with RPG elements. It’s expected that the gameplay mechanics and style seen within Assassin's Creed Valhalla will return to AC Infinity. Moreover, Assassin's Creed Infinity will change the development life-cycle of these games, as rumors suggest that mainline entries into this franchise will be dropped for DLC updates.

We doubt these rumors to be accurate, as Ubisoft has continued development on two additional AC games. It wouldn’t make sense for Ubisoft to remove these quarterly profits from their yearly revenue.

Is Assassin's Creed Rift Coming To Xbox Series X/S And PC?

Assassin's Creed Rift is guaranteed to launch onto the Xbox Series X/S and PC. Unfortunately, we cannot provide you with a release window, as Ubisoft hasn’t made an official announcement on AC Rift. Despite that, rumors suggest that Assassin's Creed Rift will launch in Q4 2022/Q1 2023.

If these rumors are true, then we will be experiencing Basim Ibn Ishaq’s next adventure much sooner than initially expected. It’s noted that Assassin's Creed Rift will also launch onto the PS5, meaning that AC Rift is a cross-platform action-adventure game.

Is Assassin's Creed Rift Part Of Xbox Game Pass?

We aren’t sure, but there’s a good chance that Assassin's Creed Rift will launch onto the Xbox Game Pass, as Assassin's Creed Origins is available to download today. However, it took five years for AC Origins to release onto the Xbox Game Pass.

We wouldn’t recommend anyone getting too hopeful about the possibility of AC Rift being made available for free download. It will be years before Ubisoft allows this game to launch under the Xbox Game Pass.
