In association with Warner Brothers, Player First Games is releasing an upcoming platformer named MultiVersus. You'll compete against characters licensed through Warner Brothers in a free-to-play game that’s expected to launch sometime in 2022.
Player First Games announced MultiVersus in November 2021 with an incredible trailer that showcased the character designs, gameplay levels, custom lobbies, and so much more. It provided insight into what MultiVersus had to offer as a free-to-play game.
The MultiVersus Open Beta will arrive in July 2022, with the official release date expected after the testing period ends. Unfortunately, Player First Games haven't disclosed the timeframe between testing and the official release date. As such, industry experts anticipate that MultiVersus will remain in beta testing for months. This would follow a similar pattern to Fortnite.
Considering that MultiVersus is free-to-play, what's stopping you from downloading this game onto your console? It's going to take up minimal storage space, and it'll probably provide you with an enjoyable experience. Who hasn't had a fantastic time playing Super Smash Bros? We have. But enough of that, let's tell you about everything in the MultiVersus.
Is MultiVersus Coming Out In 2022?
Technically speaking, you'll be capable of entering the MultiVersus in July 2022. But that timeframe isn't considered the official release date for Player First Games. They will officially launch MultiVersus sometime in 2023. That's when you can expect to see bundled packages with various microtransactions and character models. Therefore, MultiVersus will take an identical approach towards generating income as Apex Legends or Fortnite.
We'll hand them over our wallets now because you know everyone in the office is buying some Batman and Harley Quinn DLC. How couldn't we? It will be too tempting.
Multiplayer, DLC, And Everything We Know About MultiVersus | Open Beta & More

It's guaranteed that MultiVersus will support an online gameplay mode similar to Super Smash Bros. This means we'll be capable of connecting with our friends or global players. However, few gameplay modes have been shown by Player First Games.
Free-for-All is being supported in three different modes. We'll be capable of competing against like-minded players through a 1v1, 2v2, or 4v4 option. Otherwise, we haven't learned a great deal about the multiplayer component. It's expected that the full multiplayer capabilities of MultiVersus won't be revealed until the open beta in July.
Shortly after the open beta has started, we expect DLC to be launched for MultiVersus. This downloadable content will be made available through microtransactions as customizable outfits and gameplay levels become accessible to players. There will also be DLC in the form of new characters.
If anyone noticed, Warner Brothers have only confirmed sixteen characters for MultiVersus. That's a small amount considering hundreds of characters are available within the Warner Brothers Company. They can take characters from any of the following franchises:
- The Godzilla & Kong Franchise
- The Fantastic Beasts Series
- The Harry Potter Series
- The Lord of the Rings
- Game of Thrones
And these are only some of the available franchises for Warner Brothers to choose from, as additional characters can be ported over from Mortal Kombat and The Matrix. There's also the Looney Tunes, Rick & Morty, and The Conjuring Universe. This means we have the potential to have hundreds of characters in Warner Brother's MultiVersus. For now, everyone can select from these characters on launch day.

- Batman - DC
- Superman - DC
- Harley Quinn – DC
- Wonder Woman - DC
- Steven – Steven's Universe
- Garnet – Steven's Universe
- Velma – Scooby Doo Series
- Bugs Bunny – Looney Toons
- Tom & Jerry – Looney Toons
- Shaggy – Scooby Doo Series
- Arya Stark – Game of Thrones
- Reindog – MultiVersus Original
- Jake the Dog – Adventure Time
- The Iron Giant – Iron Giant Film
- Finn the Human – Adventure Time
- Tasmanian Devil – Looney Toons
We want to mention that MultiVersus isn't available for preorder. However, it's expected that "Day One DLC" will be made available to anyone who downloads this upcoming platformer in July 2022. Anyone wanting a unique costume that sets themselves apart from other players will want to target this downloadable content. Personally, we think it would be amazing to see Shaggy in a Goku costume. It would work so good for his character.
Will There Be Character Classes In MultiVersus?

Unfortunately, Player First Games hasn't provided the collection of moves to be made available to players. But everything suggests that the gameplay mechanics will be identical to Smash Bros, meaning we will have different attack options and double jumps. There will also be shielding, charging, and dodging options combined with various projectiles.
Each character unlocked or purchased will have its respective strengths and special moves broken down into five classes. Those classes include:
- Tank
- Bruiser
- Support
- Assassin
- Mage/Ranged
It's been confirmed that these classes will retain in-depth perk systems that increase the character's Unique, Offensive, Defensive, or Utility abilities. This means players can separate themselves from the competition by improving their character. For instance, Shaggy can be upgraded to a "Bruce Lee" Costume/Combo set. But remember that MultiVersus is free-to-play, and unlocking these upgrades won't be easy with the in-game currency.
It's noted that two in-game currencies have been confirmed for MultiVersus. Gold coins and gems will be made available to gamers, with the gems being considered a free currency that’s unlocked in-game. But you'll need to spend your hard-earned dollars to purchase the golden coins in MultiVersus.
Is MultiVersus Getting Released On The Xbox And PC?

Player First Games have confirmed that MultiVersus is getting released onto every central platform owned by Microsoft. That means anyone with an Xbox One, Xbox Series S, and Xbox Series X will have access to MultiVersus in July 2022.
If you're rocking a gaming computer, there isn't any need to be concerned, as MultiVersus is being released for free through Steam. This will also apply to anyone owning a PlayStation 4 or PlayStation 5, as MultiVersus will be available on PSN this upcoming July.
How Much Does MultiVersus Cost?
There isn't any cost associated with downloading MultiVersus, as this game is launching for free. Players won't need to spend money to acquire this game unless they purchase a bundled package. But it's not expected that bundled packages for MultiVersus will come for some time. Therefore, everyone can install this 2D Platformer for free without any complications.
Game Trailer
Player First Games launched the cinematic trailer for MultiVersus in the third week of May 2022, and it took the internet by storm. This resulted in more than one million gamers watching this cinematic trailer, including ourselves.
We were impressed with the cinematic trailer showing off characters like Batman & Shaggy or Superman & Iron Giant as partners. It made for a unique dynamic that most people could never have thought of before. Now, any pairing in the Warner Brother's lineup is possible.
