PlayStation has just given us a release date and an official RRP for the next generation of PlayStation VR: PSVR2. It's coming soon, but it's expensive.
When we first heard about PlayStation VR2 we expected it to release alongside Horizon Forbidden West in February 2022, but that was obviously not the case when February came and went. We've had to wait almost a year since then, and we still don't have a PSVR 2 in our hands (although plans for a Horizon game on PSVR2 called "The Call of the Mountain" are unchanged). Thankfully, we now have an official release date for the PSVR2, and we even know how much it's going to cost. It's not cheap, but this is still exciting news. Let's check it out.
PSVR2 Release Date & Price
The PSVR2 will be released on February 22, 2023, and it will go on sale for $549.99. That's a bit of an oversimplification, they're actually releasing three products on that date: PlayStation VR2, PlayStation VR2 Horizon Call of the Mountain bundle, and a fancy charger for the headset called the Sense Charging Station. Obviously the bundle is just the PlayStation VR2 kit plus that game we mentioned, The Call of the Mountain.
Here are the prices for each product in each major region:
|Product||Price in USD||Price in GBP||Price in EUR||Price in JPY|
|PlayStation VR 2||$549.99||£529.99||€599.99||¥74,980|
|PlayStation VR2 Horizon Call of the Mountain Bundle||$599.99||£569.99||€649.99||¥79,980|
|PlayStation VR2 Sense Controller Charging Station||$49.99||£39.99||€49.99||¥5,480|
Yeah, it's not as cheap as many were hoping, and almost double what the OG PSVR kit was sold for. But, it's supposedly a fantastic VR experience, so it could be worth it.
What do you think, have Sony priced themselves out of the market? Will you go for a competitor's VR kit instead? We'll be happy as long as we really do get to play Half Life: Alyx on the PS5.
