For the longest time, a fake portable GameCube floated around the internet. Now, that portable GameCube is a reality.

When I say that a fake portable GameCube has been floating around the intrawebz for a long time, then I really do mean a long time: Ever since 2007, a fake, portable GameCube has been spreading across the internet. Now, 15 years later, that portable GameCube exists, thanks to YouTuber GingerOfOz.
Portable GameCube Is Real
Y'know that fake GameCube portable that has floated around the internet for 15 years? Well, I got tired of it being fake. It's real now. pic.twitter.com/Ihox29CoP0

The dedicated gamer 3D printed the whole thing, and then modified it to look exactly like the fake portable GameCube. Now, the damn thing actually works, but that disc slot is honestly just for show. The portable GameCube's design is too small to fit all the necessary wiring, so GingerOfOz opted to have the GameCube games run digitally by using a Wii motherboard.
Most likely though, this will forever remain a fan-project that will never see the light of day. Also, don't expect Nintendo to allow any commercial sales of this project. Hell, the way Nintendo has been chasing down any perceived license breaches, they might just ask GingerOfOz to destroy his very own portable GameCube or make him take down his YouTube channel.
But... it's all good, because the Steam Deck covers all our handheld gaming needs anyway, and with the right emulators, you can easily turn it into a portable GameCube. Plus, I'm sure that Nintendo got an ace up their sleeve and are getting ready to release a 4K console by 2028 (not a joke, y'all).
