Witcher 3 Next-Gen Update Delayed

The Witcher 3's next-gen update has been delayed, yet again. Here's what the developers had to say, and a possible new release date.

The Witcher 3's next-gen update will surely be popular when it arrives. This was a fantastically well-received game, maybe a top ten of the previous generation, and so to see it brought into the current day, with shiny new graphics and smoother frame-rates, will be a real treat for the fans. But, as you've probably guessed, we have bad news to share about the Witcher 3's next-gen update. It is coming, don't panic, but not as soon as we were hoping...

Why Was The Witcher 3's Next-Gen Update Delayed?

The Witcher 3's next-gen update has been delayed because the "scope of the work" had not been originally understood. Clearly they were too ambitious in their original estimate. Here's exactly what the devs had to say:

But they did add:

We're sorry the explanation is so vague, it really doesn't tell us much, and it's not even the first time the update has been delayed. The real cause of these delays has probably been a mixture of the pandemic and the utter failure of Cyberpunk. But after all the abuse they've received, we just wish the CDPR devs good luck.

When Is The Witcher 3's Next-Gen Update Released?

We don't have an exact time-frame for the release of the Witcher 3's next-gen update anymore, but we expect it to still arrive in 2022. If the release had been planned for Q2, and this is the second delay, then we don't expect them to push it back by longer than 6 months. Of course, we could be wrong, CDPR have let us down before. But on the other hand, we're glad they're giving it time and polish.

Until then, why not play 2022's Game of the Year?
