Alphonso Mack Mackenzie MCU 1 — 11. Alphonso “Mack” Mackenzie — Approximately 556 Minutes

Introduced as an engineer during the second season of *Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.*, Mack gradually became its conscience, muscle and eventual director. Henry Simmons made the character’s reluctance essential: Mack understands the job’s cost and keeps doing it anyway, preferably with his magnificent shotgun-axe nearby. His faith regularly clashes with the increasingly bizarre world around him, which eventually includes robots, aliens and time travel. Luke Cage MCU — 10. Luke Cage — Approximately 573 Minutes

Bulletproof skin sounds like a convenient shortcut through life until Luke Cage discovers how many problems cannot be punched. After debuting in *Jessica Jones*, Mike Colter carried two seasons of his own series and helped anchor *The Defenders*, turning Harlem into more than superhero scenery. Luke’s battles involve community expectations, political influence and the uncomfortable power he accumulates while trying to protect others. Danny Rand beats Luke Cage by roughly a minute, which may be the most narrowly contested victory Iron Fist ever earned. Frank Castle entered *Daredevil* as a walking argument against Matt Murdock’s moral code and promptly commandeered every scene available. Two seasons of *The Punisher* explored the grief and institutional betrayal behind his one-man war, while *Born Again*, *One Last Kill* and *Spider-Man: Brand New Day* extended his rampage into the wider MCU. Fitz can rescue the team with a machine assembled under pressure, then terrify everyone by explaining exactly what survival requires. “The Cavalry” is a nickname Melinda May despises, attached to a story far uglier than the legend repeated around S.H.I.E.L.D. headquarters. Ming-Na Wen initially plays her as a sealed vault who happens to fly planes and demolish opponents; the series patiently reveals the guilt buried underneath. May eventually becomes a mentor, leader and, after one final supernatural complication, an empath. Jemma Simmons begins *Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.* delighted by unusual specimens and ends it qualified to write several deeply alarming memoirs. The biochemist survives an alien planet, imprisonment, space travel, alternate realities and decades spent solving time itself. Elizabeth Henstridge keeps her intelligence from becoming a magical plot-solving button; every scientific breakthrough seems to charge Jemma an emotional fee. Jessica Jones accumulated nearly seventeen hours without capes, secret headquarters or much enthusiasm for superhero branding. Her detective work places her at the center of three solo seasons and *The Defenders*, where Krysten Ritter turns sarcasm into both armor and blunt instrument. The series spends as much time on trauma, addiction and damaged relationships as it does on superhuman threats.
