It might not be the most popular genre, and it might not have had many hits in recent years, but there have been some legendary stealth games over the years!

Sly offers a great intro to the genre. All the mechanics are easy to master, and the characters are just cool and funny. But let's face it, for a stealth game it's way too easy. | © Sanzaru Games
Maybe not the best Assassin's Creed (especially on release) but Unity is probably the AC with the best stealth options. And not only did this game bring offer great stealth, but it set the missions up to support that. | © Ubisoft
This game isn't strictly a stealth game, but it's got some amazing stealth elements. It has some of the smartest AI in video game history, and you can interact with the environment in really engaging ways, like crawling under cars and hiding in tall grass. It's a great example of how games can create environments for stealth gameplay. | © Naughty Dog
Think of the environment as your enemy! The glass on the floor, the bird in the cage; everything can make a noise that will expose you. The reboot gave us a lot of the old good Thief sauce, with better AI. | © Eidos Interactive
This is a great game for those who want to crawl through the undergrowth and take their target out from a distance. But the selling point is, of course, the slow motion bullet-time mechanic that lets you watch the rounds travel from the gun to the target. | © Rebellion
Bethesda gave us one of the best, if not the best, stealth franchise of the 2010s, and the Victorian setting was incredibly refreshing. Also, some of the skills were crazy, like controlling a rat, shadow jumping, and even bending time! | © Bethesda
I know it's listed as a survival horror game, but for me, it's still a stealth game. And it's one of the best! The alien is invincible, but you can take down the androids and humans with a variety of guns and gadgets. It's mostly hide or run, but the atmosphere in this game is incredible. It shows how great horror games can be that lean more into the stealth genre. | © Creative Assembly
Splinter Cell is the franchise that first comes to mind when you mention stealth, and more than any other game on this list, it's "pure stealth". In fact, it could easily be number one, especially Chaos Theory in particular, which was the strongest Splinter Cell. At this point it will be too dated for newcomers, but the first Splinter Cell is getting a remake soon, so make sure to check it out if you're a stealth fan! | © Ubisoft
The worst Metal Gear Solid, but the best stealth game. They cut a lot from the story, but nothing from the gameplay. The variety of weapons plus modifications, gadgets and companions like the sniper Quiet or the horse "D-Horse" gives the player so much to try out. And this game has to this day the smartest AI in all stealth games, which act cautiously by checking the bushes from a distance and arealways in contact with the HQ. Difficult but still fun. | © Konami
In our number one spot is the most famous bald guy in video game history, besides Kratos. We could have chosen any of the games really, the Hitman games have been consistently great thanks to their intricate level design, freedom of approach, and challenge. And the games offer immense replayability with their diverse environments and attention to detail. | © IO Interactive
