CS2: Is Vertigo getting removed from the Map Pool?

While Vertigo has had its place in the map pool, it’s widely known as one of the least popular maps in the pro circuit. In recent weeks, leaks and community chatter have stirred up speculation that Vertigo might soon be removed from the CS2 map pool.

Fans and analysts are buzzing with excitement as sources suggest that classic maps Train and Cache could make a long-awaited comeback in competitive play. With Vertigo’s low pick rate in Tier 1 professional CS, this shift could bring fresh energy to the scene and satisfy fans eager for a more classic lineup.

Rumors swirl about Vertigo’s replacement

While Vertigo has had its place in the map pool, it’s widely known as one of the least popular maps in the pro circuit in 2024. According to statistics, it’s the least-played map among top-tier teams, which has sparked criticism that its layout and gameplay style don't resonate with players or viewers at the highest levels.

The unique verticality of the map, which challenges traditional map navigation, remains divisive, and many in the community are vocal about wanting it out of the rotation.

This isn’t just fan speculation—credible leaks indicate that Train could be the first map to return if Vertigo is indeed removed. The iconic map, known for its distinct layout and challenging choke points, was retired from active duty in 2021, but many players and viewers have been calling for its return. Bringing Train back would reintroduce a beloved classic that encourages strategic, tactical play styles, often leading to nail-biting rounds and intense sniper duels.

On top of this, well-known map designer FMPONE is working on an updated version of Cache. Cache was a fan favorite known for its balanced layout and tactical possibilities, and FMPONE’s involvement suggests that its reintroduction could come with substantial improvements.

If Train and Cache indeed return, they could be serving for exactly what the community has been asking for: A map pool that honors CS history and provides a dynamic and competitive experience.

The Future of the CS2 Map Pool

With Vertigo’s potential departure, the CS2 map pool might be on the brink of major change. The reintroduction of classics like Train and Cache could reinvigorate the scene and attract players and viewers who miss the thrill of these iconic battlegrounds. While there’s no official word from Valve yet, fans are keeping a close watch.

Recently, they teased an upcoming update, by leaking a chat with FaZe star and CS2 nerd Robin "ropz" Kool:

Many hope Vertigo’s exit could mark the beginning of a new era in CS2 map rotation, as the community is still missing plenty of fan favorite maps and game modes from CS:GO.

What do you think? Is Vertigo rightfully on the chopping block? Or should Valve swap out a different map in the next rotation?
