Director Harmony Korine recently claimed that big names in livestreaming like Kai Cenat and IShowSpeed are a big part of the reason why Hollywood has lost its dominant cultural position.
It is no secret that streaming has gained massive popularity in the last decade. Some of these streamers reach daily audiences that other mediums, like TV, could now only dream of.
Now Hollywood director, Harmony Korine, who is known for directing Mid 90s, Spring Breakers, and the newly released Baby Invasion, has claimed that he thinks big streamers are destroying the film industry.
Streamers Kill Hollywood
During the Venice Film Festival, the director spoke on the matter during a press conference, promoting his newest film, Baby Invasion.
He thinks Hollywood should start embracing these newer forms of entertainment that have taken over youth culture, like gaming and streaming.
He said:
What’s happening in Hollywood — and you’re starting to see Hollywood, I think, crumble creatively — is that they’re losing a lot of the most talented and creative minds to gaming and to streamers. Like IShowSpeed is a movie, Kai Cenat is a movie.

He goes on to say that the young talents of this world, will naturally gravitate towards the art form that is the most popular at the moment, which is in this case streaming.
They go to other places because movies are no longer the dominant art form. Always, they were the dominant art form, but nothing is linear anymore.
He adds:
And so they’re going to start to lose all the talent to all these other places, and film is going to — not all film, but a lot of film — stagnate with just huge IP or just this kind of very rarefied experience.
In a video on X, Harmony Korine was asked whether IShowSpeed would be in his next movie, to which he replied:
Yeah, I hope so.
