Few movies have had a journey to the big screen quite like Coyote vs. Acme. After Warner Bros. shelved the completed film in 2023, fans spent years campaigning for its release.

Now that the movie has finally reached audiences, it has been revealed that the filmmakers have included a heartfelt message thanking those who helped save it. The message, which features in the movie's end credits, states:

Dedicated to everyone who posted, shared, held up signs and spoke out when it counted. This film made it to the big screen because of you.

Warner Bros. decided to shelve Coyote vs. Acme in 2023, reportedly as part of the studio's efforts to benefit from a $30 million tax write-off if the movie were not released.

The decision sparked significant backlash, particularly because the movie had already been completed and had reportedly received positive reactions from test audiences.

Fans Refused to Let Coyote vs. Acme Disappear

Fans subsequently kept the campaign for the film's release alive through social media posts, petitions, signs, and public statements.

One fan went as far as to protest outside the Warner Bros. studio lot in Burbank in 2025, fully dressed as Wile E. Coyote while holding a sign that read, "Release Me!!"

Voice actor Eric Bauza, who voices Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, and others in the upcoming film, demanded Coyote vs. Acme be released during a speech at the 2024 Annie Awards.

The movie eventually found a new home when Ketchup Entertainment acquired the worldwide rights for a reported $50 million, giving the film a path to a theatrical release.

A Fitting Ending for an Underdog Story

The dedication from fans is quite fitting given the film's premise. The movie follows Wile E. Coyote as he takes Acme Corporation to court after its products repeatedly cause him harm.

The film's real-life journey makes the end-credit message particularly appropriate. Coyote vs. Acme is fundamentally an underdog story, with Wile E. Coyote taking on a powerful corporation.

The cast includes Will Forte, Lana Condor, and John Cena. It is based on Ian Frazier's 1990 New Yorker parody about the character taking Acme Corporation to court.

Coyote vs. Acme is set to release on August 28, 2026.
