Ranking All Pixar Movie Franchises

1-18

The Ultimate Pixar Movie Ranking.

Freya Engel Freya Engel
Entertainment - July 4th 2024, 12:20 GMT+2
Arlo Spot

18. Arlo & Spot – The good Dinosaur

In 'Arlo & Spot', the story follows a young Apatosaurus named Arlo, living in a world where dinosaurs never went extinct. He encounters Spot, a human boy, and together they set out to find Arlo's family, facing numerous challenges and adventures along the way.

The film was released in 2015 and runs for 94 minutes. It portrays the wonderful and extraordinary friendship between Arlo and Spot – however, it lacks that certain something, which is why it ended up in last place. Many Pixar films appeal to both young and older audiences, but unfortunately, this film doesn't quite evoke that feeling. | © Pixar

Onward

17. Onward

In 'Onward,' two brothers, Ian and Barley Lightfoot, embark on a magical adventure to bring back their deceased father for a day. Along their journey, they encounter numerous obstacles that ultimately bring them closer together.

The film is one of Pixar's newer releases, hitting theaters in 2020, with a runtime of 102 minutes. The relationship between the two brothers is thought-provoking and heartwarming, yet the film didn't quite manage to fully convince us. | © Pixar

Turning Red

16. Turning Red

'Turning Red' is a quite amusing film about Mei Lee, a 13-year-old Chinese-Canadian teenage girl who transforms into a red panda when emotionally charged. As she navigates her coming-of-age journey, Mei encounters numerous challenges and learns to balance her desires with her family's expectations.

Released in 2022 with a runtime of 100 minutes, the film primarily resonated with the younger generation. Many could relate to the teen's issues, yet some found certain moments overly cheesy and awkward, making the film somewhat uncomfortable for them. | © Pixar

Elemental

15. Elemental

'Elemental' is Pixar's latest film, focusing on the elements of fire, water, air, and earth portrayed as characters living together in a bustling city. However, due to its perceived danger, the fire element has its own district and lives segregated from the others. Yet, the fire girl, Ember, and the water boy, Wage, still find a connection and unite the elements.

Released in 2023 with a runtime of 101 minutes, the film surprised many with its emotional and tragic storyline. However, the hype surrounding the film exceeded the satisfaction with the film itself. Nonetheless, the film provokes thought and illustrates how even the most diverse individuals can come together. | © Pixar

Luca Movie

14. Luca

Luca is a curious young sea monster with the ability to transform into a human. With his newfound friend Alberto, Luca navigates the challenges of concealing his true identity while experiencing the excitement of exploring the human world above water.

Released in 2021 with a runtime of 95 minutes, the film showcases a charming small town in Italy and explores the whimsical thoughts of a child/teenager. While primarily aimed at children, the film also brings joy and smiles to adults. | © Pixar

Brave

13. Brave

'Brave' is considered part of the Disney princess lineup, but it stands out due to its unique storyline. Merida's mother desires her to behave like a princess - refined and noble - yet Merida prefers to pursue her hobby of archery. This conflict leads to a disagreement between them, resulting in chaos.

The film vividly portrays the challenges of a princess's life and emphasizes the significance of the relationship between parents and children. Released in 2012 with a runtime of 93 minutes, 'Brave' highlights these themes while showcasing Merida's spirited determination. | © Pixar

Cars

12. Cars

'Cars' melts the hearts of car enthusiasts! The red racer named Lightning McQueen initially has only one thing on his mind: winning the race. However, as he experiences life outside the racetrack and through his interactions with the townsfolk and a wise old race car named Doc Hudson, Lightning discovers what truly matters beyond fame and glory.

The first 'Cars' film was released in 2006, with a runtime of 117 minutes of pure racing fun. While some might assume that cars are only for boys, this film clearly proves otherwise! I'd give anything to get a tire change from Luigi. | © Pixar

Soul

11. Soul

'Soul' really allows you to look deep into the essence of being. At least, it does for Joe Gardner, a pianist who dreams of playing jazz for a living. After a tragic accident, he embarks on a trip to the afterlife, exploring what it means to have a soul and rediscovering his passion for jazz music. Along the way, he mentors a soul named 22, helping her uncover the joys of life on Earth.

Released in 2020 with a runtime of 101 minutes, the film helps viewers appreciate the small, important things in life and shows what truly matters. It offers us a glimpse not only into Joe's soul but also into our own. Perhaps you'll find your love for jazz through this film as well. | © Pixar

Coco

10. Coco

In 'Coco,' we meet a young boy named Miguel who dreams of becoming a musician despite his family's ban on music. He embarks on a journey to the Land of the Dead to uncover his family's mysterious past, learning about the power of love, tradition, and the importance of following one's passion along the way. And remember: family is everything!

Released in 2017 with a runtime of 105 minutes, the film brought back memories of our relatives! It’s not just about wishes and passion, but also about cherishing the beautiful times and memories. | © Pixar

A Bugs Life

9. A Bug's Life

'A Bug's Life' captures the lives of our tiny neighbors charmingly. Flik, a misfit ant, must recruit a group of circus bugs to defend his colony from an oppressive gang of grasshoppers; an epic story of revolution.

Released in 1998 with a runtime of 95 minutes, the film not only offers a glimpse into the lives of insects but also draws parallels to the real world. If we've learned anything, it's that teamwork is crucial, no matter how small or big you are! | © Pixar

Ratatouille

8. Ratatouille

'Ratatouille' is a truly special film. The little gourmet rat Remy dreams of becoming a chef. He forms an unlikely partnership with a young line chef named Linguini, using his exceptional sense of taste to secretly create culinary masterpieces. This way, the little rat even manages to win over the grumpiest food critic and evoke beautiful memories through the unique taste.

The film, released in 2007, shows that if you believe in your dreams, you can achieve anything. We enjoyed a delicious 111 minutes watching the little rat create the most beautiful and mouthwatering dishes. Just thinking about it makes me hungry. | © Pixar

Monsters Inc

7. Monsters, Inc.

This film turns everything upside down. Everyone knows the fear of monsters as a child, but in 'Monsters, Inc.' it's the monsters who are afraid of humans. To power their world, they need the screams of human children. However, two monsters, Sulley and Mike, accidentally bring a little girl named Boo into their world. As they try to return her, they uncover a conspiracy that challenges the monster way of life.

The film was released in 2001 and gave us 92 minutes of pure monster fun. Many children (and adults) found their fear of monsters alleviated, finding them cute instead. Thank you, Pixar, for the helpful therapy! | © Pixar

The Incredibles

6. The Incredibles

'The Incredibles' – a family like any other, but with special abilities. The family of superheroes is forced into hiding and leads ordinary lives until they are called back into action to save the world from a villain who threatens their existence. Each family member, with their unique powers, must work together to overcome obstacles and protect humanity. And every shared danger brings them closer as a family, at least for five minutes.

The film hit the screens in 2004 with a runtime of 115 minutes, bringing us the superheroes the Pixar universe had been missing. In this film, we not only learn how challenging the life of a superhero is, but also the importance of family unity and the need to be understanding with teenagers. Truly a super all-around film. | © Pixar

UP

5. UP

UP is an incredibly heartwarming film that follows the life of an elderly widower named Carl Fredricksen, who fulfills his late wife's dream of adventure by tying thousands of balloons to his house and flying to South America. Along the way, he unexpectedly befriends a young Wilderness Explorer named Russell and encounters exotic creatures, like Kevin, and various challenges.

The film was released in 2009 with a runtime of 96 minutes and brought us the tear-jerking story of an old man. It was heartening to see the wonderful moments he experienced on his extraordinary journey and the friends he made along the way. It's a beautiful reminder that it's never too late to fulfill your dreams and bring joy to others! | © Pixar

Toy Story

4. Toy Story

'Toy Story' is the first Pixar film ever released, capturing the hearts of thousands. It revolves around a group of toys that come to life when humans aren't around, focusing on the rivalry between Woody, a cowboy doll, and Buzz Lightyear, a space ranger action figure. The story takes a turn when they get separated from their beloved owner, Andy, and must work together to find their way back home, ultimately forming a strong friendship.

The film truly brings our cherished toys to life, as many of us imagined them having their own lives. "Toy Story" debuted in 1995 with a runtime of 81 minutes. With this masterpiece, Pixar not only made a grand entry into the film industry but also directly into our hearts. | © Pixar

Inside Out

3. Inside Out

In 'Inside Out,' the story unfolds inside the mind of an 11-year-old girl named Riley, where her emotions – Joy, Sadness, Anger, Fear, and Disgust – guide her through life's challenges. Riley reacts according to the responses of these emotions. However, when Joy and Sadness become lost within her mind, they must find their way back to Headquarters, while the remaining emotions strive to maintain balance in Riley's life.

The film made its grand debut in 2015 and has a runtime of 95 minutes filled with emotions, with a bit of fun on the side. It's fascinating not only to witness how the emotions steer the teenage girl, but also to contemplate the various emotions lurking within us in different situations. Everyone knows the five emotions and has experienced some of the emotional states Riley encounters. | © Pixar

Finding Nemo

2. Finding Nemo

In 'Finding Nemo,' the story revolves around the clownfish family of Marlin and his son Nemo. When Nemo is captured by divers, Marlin embarks on a journey across the ocean to find him. Along the way, he is accompanied by a forgetful fish named Dory. Together, they experience wild adventures and encounter a variety of friendly sea creatures underwater.

'Finding Nemo' was released in 2003 and has a runtime of 100 minutes. Within the first few minutes, the film manages to evoke tears from its audience. Not every film can build empathy so quickly. However, the film isn't just about tears – it also delivers some of the funniest jokes, especially because the clownfish simply can't tell good jokes. | © Pixar

Wall E

1. WALL-E

WALL-E is a small waste-collecting robot left to clean up an abandoned, trash-covered Earth. When EVE, a sleek robot sent to find signs of life, arrives on Earth searching for a plant, WALL-E's life changes completely. Driven by blind love and curiosity, he follows EVE into the depths of space.

Released in 2008, 'WALL-E' enchanted audiences with its 97 minutes of heartwarming storytelling. From the first minute, its tale is captivating, and the story of the little robot is fascinating. What sets the film apart is its portrayal of important contemporary themes with a touch of humor. Furthermore, the film shows how important friendship and love are, and that one should not give up in difficult situations, even when hope is lacking. | © Pixar
