Spider-Man is Marvel's highest-grossing media franchise (having generated an estimated $26.8 billion as of 2024), most profits being generated through merchandise, like those $30 polyester suits you see each Halloween mimicking the web-slinging hero's appearance.
For true Spider-Man superfans though, there's now the option to get the real deal... starting at 50,000 US dollars.
What's Included?
The costume in question is the version donned by Tobey Maguire for his role as Peter Parker in the movies Spider-Man 2 (2004) and Spider-Man 3 (2007). With the 21st-century cinema adaptations of the comic book stories being widely beloved and critically acclaimed as some of the best superhero movies ever made, there is an expectedly high demand for the item. Not to mention that the franchise has recently become even more relevant again with the announcement of a new movie!
The site PropstoreAuction, which offers the suit alongside other Spider-Man souvenirs like Green Goblin's trident, estimates the final bidding price for the single-piece spandex leotard to reach between $100,000 and $200,000. The auction itself – having started at $50,000 on August 23 – will continue until September 4.
Aside from obvious hygienic concerns, it is not recommended that the buyer actually wears this extravagant piece of clothing due it being custom-made to fit Tobey Maguire's proportions at the time of filming (a body shape he may now wish to return to). Plastic parts like internal helmet and boots may easily break, so keeping it on the custom-made display mannequin would probably be the best course of action.
Regardless if you happen to see an article titled "We got the official Spider-Man suit" on here anytime soon, just know that we at EarlyGame have made some questionable financial decisions... The auction itself can be found here, but don't you dare outbid us!
