A new DLC for the roguelike has been officially announced, and it might be exactly what the game needs right now.
The Elden Ring roguelike spin-off finally has a release date for its upcoming DLC. Despite its successful launch, a new expansion might be just what the community needs to dive back in.
Elden Ring Nightreign DLC Is Arriving Sooner Than Expected
FromSoftware’s parent company, Kadokawa Corporation, had previously hinted in a financial report that the Elden Ring Nightreign DLC would be released before the end of the 2025 fiscal year. That prediction has now been confirmed: FromSoftware has officially announced Elden Ring Nightreign The Forsaken Hollows, set to launch on December 4, 2025.
The new chapter expands the game with new bosses and two playable character classes. After months of speculation, fans finally know when they’ll be able to step back into the shadows of the Lands Between.
Kadokawa also revealed that FromSoftware is currently working not only on the Nightreign DLC, but also on a Switch 2 version of Elden Ring and on The Duskbloods, a Nintendo-exclusive Soulslike title. Fans are eager to see what the newly announced DLC has to offer, and given the scope and quality of FromSoftware’s past expansions, there’s every reason to be excited.
Will The Tarnished Return With The Forsaken Hollows?
Kadokawa’s report had already shown that Elden Ring Nightreign exceeded expectations at launch but saw a noticeable decline in its second quarter. Many players praised the game for its concept and atmosphere but criticized its lack of variety. For a roguelike built around endless runs, Nightreign offered too little diversity in weapons, classes, and bosses to keep most players engaged in the long term.
The newly announced DLC aims to change that. The Forsaken Hollows expands Nightreign with new boss encounters and introduces two additional playable classes: the Scholar, who focuses on magic and strategic control, and Undertaker, who combines faith with raw strength. The existing Shifting Earth system is also being expanded, adding a new event of the same name that brings more variety and dynamism to each run. These additions are clearly designed to increase replayability and provide seasoned players with fresh challenges.
Free updates had already improved the experience, adding features like the ability to select specific high-difficulty boss encounters or manually activate unlocked Shifting Earth events. But it’s The Forsaken Hollows that seems poised to give Nightreign the long-awaited boost that could bring it back to the center of the community’s attention.
The Dawn After the Night
With The Forsaken Hollows, it is now clear where Nightreign is headed, and expectations are high. FromSoftware has proven time and time again that it can not only expand its games through DLC, but also redefine them. Many fans hope the same will be true for this roguelike spin-off. The community’s wish remains unchanged: more variety, more challenges, and more reasons to return to the game.
Kadokawa’s financial confidence confirms that Nightreign still holds untapped potential. If FromSoftware manages to integrate the new content, particularly the Scholar and Undertaker classes and the expanded Shifting Earth system, seamlessly into the existing gameplay, The Forsaken Hollows could become the boost many players have been waiting for. There is still some time until its release in December, but in the world of Elden Ring, patience always pays off.
