Even though it might take a few years before we see its light of day, Critical Role and AdHoc are teaming up for the first game set in Exandria.

Critical is getting bigger and bigger every year. What started as a friend group of Voice Actors coming together to play Dungeons and Dragons, quickly evolved into a multi-platform entertainment sensation. The adventures in the world of Exandria became so popular over time, that they are now even being adapted into animated shows – with The Legend Of Vox Machina adapting their first campaign.
After Critical Role also proved themselves in the tabletop-gaming market with their own Pen and Paper Daggerheart, there seemed to be one next logical step. Creating a video game. After all, they all have close connections to the gaming world, having voiced many characters in games themselves.
AdHoc and Critical Role
Travis Willingham – CEO of Critical Role and Cast member – has been looking for the right studio to adapt their ideas into a game for years. Last year, Travis received an audition for Dispatch, the new game by AdHoc Studio. Travis was impressed by the narrative design of the game and loved the look of it, that is reminiscent of an animated show.
He asked the COO and co-founder of AdHoc, Nick Herman, if they would be willing to create a Critical Role game that looks like Dispatch. Apparently everything went smoothly, because now we finally have the official confirmation that a game is in development. The game will be not as big as an AAA title with more than five years development time, but it will be big enough to warrant a few years of development time.
Former Telltale Games Developers
AdHoc Studio is an independent developer that was founded by former industry veterans from Telltale Games. The studio brought us many great story driven adventures where it was all about choices. With a studio like that behind the Critical Role game, it's hard not to get excited.
While the wait is still long until we'll hear any big news about the game, you can still be excited about the other collaboration of critical Role and AdHoc, Dispatch. Travis Willingham, Laura Bailey and the Dungeon Master himself, Matthew Mercer, all lend their voices to characters in the upcoming superhero workplace comedy.
