Hideo Kojima is back to his wacky ways: People start to realize that there is a Metal Gear reference in every corner in the upcoming release, scheduled for June 26.

Konami Played Him Like A Fiddle!

Hideo Kojima seems to be still attached to his ex. After a not-so-kind falling out with Konami, he was forced to leave the franchise behind he worked so much on building. Metal Gear Solid is not just his brainchild, the game completely defined the stealth genre, which inspired many others to take on the sneaking style of gameplay. After the rushed ending of Metal Gear Solid 5, no upcoming Metal Gear titles are developed with his involvement, including the upcoming remake of the third game Metal Gear Solid: Delta. Because he still appears to be emotional about the departure, many fans see Death Stranding as a continuation of his prized storytelling and gameplay, just without the many Snakes.

Metal Gear Stranding?

After the original Death Stranding received mixed reviews, ranging from very high to mediocre, the second part will release in late June. For many, the weak point was a slow story telling but many Metal Gear fans see exactly this as its biggest strength and a testimony of a Hideo Kojima game.

Kojima Productions released a trailer to hype players up for the new game. And that's exactly what it did.

It didn't take long before true Kojima fans saw a plethora of references to his series that started it all. Metal Gear Stranding, anyone? People would call it a coincidence if it were just one or two little hidden things, but the references are pretty obvious in some cases.

In the trailer, we can see a DHV Magellan Ship, which could serve us as a home base. But the shape? Looks a lot like Metal Gear Rex' head! Okay, this is a slight speculation. But apart from very similar gameplay elements like stealthy gameplay, there are way mores striking references. The newly revealed cover art shows Cliff kissing a baby on the forehead. If you're a long time Metal Gear fan, this should ring some bells: The image resembles the Japan-only box art of Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty pretty closely.

In addition to that, we might get another Snake in Death Stranding 2. His real name might be Neil, but that doesn't stop Kojima from making him a Snake-lookalike. At the end of the trailer, he ties a bandana around his forehead, and it's clear that even for Hideo Kojima, the ending of Metal Gear Solid 3 is still burned into his brain. Same, Kojima, same.

If that doesn't convince you: How about a villain that shoots lasers out of his electronic guitar?

What do you think of the trailer? Were you a Hideo Kojima fan from the start and look forward to more Metal Gear-esque gameplay? Or are you a new fan and amazed by the breathtaking trailer?
