MindsEye Off To A Difficult Start - Is Rockstar Behind It?

Is it a conspiracy? Mark Gerhard, Co-CEO of Build a Rocket Boy, thinks there could be something behind it.

MindsEye came under fire a few days ago when Mark Gerhard, co-CEO of Build a Rocket Boy (BARB) and ex-Rockstar employee, spoke of a negative campaign against the recently released game.

MindsEye, You Deserved Better

Many originally described MindsEye as a GTA alternative. The background of the co-CEO, who was originally a Rockstar employee himself, was highly praised. However, the anticipated single-player action game has already fallen flat for most: The concept behind it is good and they “really wanted [BARB] to make it”, but the game feels extremely unfinished in the opinion of many players.

Reports of missing saves, bugs that make the story missions impossible to complete and lousy performance despite good hardware do not exactly speak in favor of the game. According to Mark Gerhard, none of this is entirely MindsEye's fault, but also the result of a targeted negative campaign against the game.

IO Interactive Doesn't Believe In Theories

But even before the release, players were extremely skeptical, as no review copies were sent out and trailers only showed very sparse gameplay. But according to CEO of IO Interactive, Hakan Abrak, it is the reviews of players who received the physical version before release which are overly negative. He emphasizes that he does not believe that Rockstar is behind an organized or even paid negative PR campaign. And he assures that the game and the performance with the day-one patch will ensure that players will be convinced by the game. It is quite normal these days to work on patches and improvements right up to the last second. That's why we should wait and see what the release brings.

So... Players Are Right?

In that respect, players have every right to react the way they do. Players are of the opinion that the game is in a catastrophic state. Pretty much everything is criticized: While the performance and system requirements are the biggest criticisms, some players also say that the voice-over sounds uninspired and simply boring. Others praise the story and are eagerly waiting to see how the game will evolve in the next couple of years. But there is one thing that players generally agree on: the game seems unfinished and needs some serious improvements. And that's definitely not Rockstar's fault.

Have you played MindsEye yet? Do you think it's the perfect mix of Saints Row and GTA, or are you also plagued by constant crashes?
