G2 Esports defeated Karmine Corp 3-1 in the Upper Bracket Final of the LEC Summer Playoffs. With the win, G2 not only reached the Grand Final in Nice but also qualified directly for the Worlds 2026 Swiss Stage. For KC, the loss hurts, but it is not the end of the split.
G2 Remains Europe’s Safest Bet
It was not the Grand Final yet, but this win was still hugely important for G2. By beating Karmine Corp 3-1, the team skips the Worlds Play-Ins and moves directly into the Swiss Stage. Right before Worlds, that is more than just a comfort bonus. Less risk, fewer extra series and more preparation time – for a team with international ambitions, that can matter a lot.
G2 had already qualified for Worlds the day before with a 3-0 win over Team Vitality. Against KC, the stakes were now a better path into the tournament and a spot in the LEC Summer Grand Final. There, G2 will play for their third LEC title of the season in Nice in two weeks.
The series was also a statement because Karmine Corp had been unbeaten throughout the LEC Summer before this match. The Blue Wall had not lost a match during the regular season and had just celebrated the first Worlds qualification in the organization’s history after beating GIANTX 3-1. Still, against G2, it was not enough again.
Karmine Corp Is Stuck at the G2 Hurdle Again
For KC, the loss is difficult to judge. On one hand, the team has not failed. Worlds is secured, the season is still strong, and the Lower Bracket still gives them a chance to force a rematch in the Grand Final. On the other hand, the series confirms a pattern that has defined 2026: when it really matters in Europe, G2 are still standing in Karmine Corp’s way.
G2 had already beaten KC in direct playoff series at LEC Versus and in the Spring Split. This time, Karmine Corp did manage to take one game but never really took control of the series. After two early G2 wins, KC answered with a dominant Game 3, but G2 closed the door again in Game 4.
That makes the result especially bitter. KC had just rebuilt momentum after losing the EWC final to Dplus KIA. Their Worlds qualification against GIANTX was historic, and their LEC Summer run had been impressive. But against G2, it once again became clear that Europe’s hierarchy has not fully shifted yet.
Caps Delivers in His Hall of Legends Week
One nice subplot was Rasmus “Caps” Winther. According to E.SPORT.FR, the mid laner was named MVP of the series and brought out Tristana in Game 4 of all champions – one of the champions Riot chose for his Hall of Legends skins. The timing almost fits too perfectly.
Overall, G2 looked better prepared, more stable in teamfights, and calmer in the decisive moments. That has been the organization’s strength for years. Even when other teams build more hype during a season, G2 almost always finds a way to create distance again in best-of-five series against European opponents.
For Worlds, that is an important sign. Europe needs teams that can do more than deliver individual upsets. It needs teams that remain reliable in series. G2 has not looked perfect throughout 2026, but when qualification, titles, and international seeding are on the line, the organization remains the region’s most dependable name.
KC Can Still Gain a Lot
Despite the loss, Karmine Corp should not be judged too harshly. The team has reached Worlds, played a strong Summer, and stabilized clearly compared to its disappointing MSI performance. For an organization that only recently entered the LEC, that is a huge step.
The next goal is clear: KC has to deliver once more in the Lower Bracket. Another win would not only create a rematch against G2 but also secure a direct Worlds Swiss Stage spot. For the Blue Wall, that would be an extremely valuable finish before the biggest international event of the season.
G2, meanwhile, did exactly what top teams have to do in series like this. They stopped an in-form KC, secured the best Worlds path, and confirmed their role as Europe’s benchmark. It was not the final yet. But for Europe’s Worlds picture, this 3-1 was still one of the most important matches of the split.
