Ghostbusters Afterlife was really quite surprisingly good. I say surprising because many of my favorite franchises as a child have been desecrated in recent years (The Hobbit trilogy still gives me night terrors), but no, as I say, the team behind Ghostbuster's Afterlife did an admirable job of bringing the franchise back. Thankfully they're making a sequel, and we're here to share the release date with you.

When Is The Ghostbusters Afterlife Sequel Release Date?

The Ghostbusters Afterlife sequel will be released on Wednesday, December 20, 2023. And all we really know about it comes from a Hollywood Reporter interview with director Jason Reitmanand and co-writer Gil Kenan:

At the end of Ghostbusters: Afterlife, the Ecto-1 is driving into Manhattan, returning to its home. And before anyone ever heard the title Afterlife, we called it Rust City. Which would not have made sense to anyone until they saw the movie. The code name for the next movie is Firehouse. The reference, of course, is the Ghostbusters’ headquarters in the two ’80s films. We’re writing as quickly as we can. We had the story before we finished Afterlife. And we have been crafting this with as much care as it took to build Afterlife into a worthy sequel.

The return to New York had to be done. That city is iconic for many things, and Ghostbusters is one of them. And besides that we know so little about this film that we can't speculate on it much further. But you have a release date now!

We will of course update you as soon as we hear more from this project. If you're looking for something to fill the time until then, we have a few recommendations...
