Starfield offers plenty of different options to travel around the Settled Systems. Besides ships, fast travel and some public transport systems, one of your best friends is going to be your Boost Pack, which is basically a Jetpack!

Even though the Boost Pack may not be the fanciest of upgrades to your travel setup, it is pretty dang useful. Once you get a Boost Pack, travelling on foot will be so much quicker and easier than before.

When walking around a planet a Boost Pack will give you an additional jump, which will help you stay in the air longer. Depending on the type of Boost Pack you have strapped to your back, the effects and duration of your jumps will vary.

They're really easy to use, too. You'll never have to worry about having to refuel your Boost Packs. Once the fuel meter runs empty, you'll just have to wait for a short while until the meter is filled up again, then you can start double jumping around again!

The only catch is, you can only use Boost Packs once you've unlocked the Boost Pack skill.

Starfield: Unlock The Boost Pack Skill

In order to use Boost Packs, you're going to need to unlock the Boost Pack Skill.

If you picked the right character backgrounds, you might already have unlocked the Boost Pack Training as part of your starting skills. In case you're interested, which character backgrounds let you use Boost Packs from the beginning, these two do:

  • Bounty Hunter
  • Soldier

If these backgrounds didn't pique your interest, don't worry, you'll still be able to unlock the Boost Pack skill.

Just look for the Boost Pack skill in the Tech section of the skill trees. You should find it in the first row of unlockable skills, so you won't have to wait to unlock a lot of other skills before being able to use Boost Packs.

As soon as you've gotten the Boost Pack skill to at least Rank 1, you'll be able to use Boost Packs. The higher you rank up this skill, the less fuel you'll need when using them, so you'll be able to hover around in the air for longer.

Starfield: Types Of Boost Packs

Soon after you start playing Starfield you should stumble upon many different types of Boost Packs. You can get them in many places, but you'll also receive them by completing quests or looting space pirates. There are four different types of boost packs, and which one you should choose depends on personal preference. Each type of Boost Pack has its own pros and cons. The different types are:

  • Basic Boost Pack: Lets you do a simple bonus jump, which lifts you slightly off the ground.
  • Balance Boost Pack: Lets you boost higher off the ground than the basic Boost Pack, which helps you explore higher terrains.
  • Power Boost Pack: Gives you the highest boost available, but will use up all of your fuel at once to propel you up for just one jump.
  • Skip Capacity Boost Pack: Doesn't boost you up like other types, but instead forward, just like skipping.

So, keep your eyes open when grabbing your next Boost Pack and try out all types to find out which one is your favorite!
