Bethesda's new game Starfield, the highly anticipated space exploration game, offers a variety of quests to players and plenty of space to explore. One of the standout quests is the “Overdesigned” mission.

Starfield: How To Start The Overdesigned Quest

In Starfield, after completing the “All That Money Can Buy” quest, Walter Stroud offers a valuable side quest called “Overdesigned.” To embark on this quest, speak to Walter at The Lodge. Here's a guide to completing it.

Starting the Quest

To start the quest, you need to progress through the main quests “All That Money Can Buy” and “Starborn.” If you speak to Walter at The Lodge, you will trigger the “Overdesigned” mission.

Go to the Stroud-Eklund Staryard

  • Set course for the Staryard from the Mission menu
  • Dock at the orbiting base in the Narion system
  • Find Jules inside the base

Choose a Budget

  • Decide on your budget plan
  • Opt for the “Kitchen Sink” budget for the best ship
  • Pass a persuasion check with Jules (requires six points)
  • Use Hippolyta pills if needed
  • Optional: Give Feedback on the Team’s Proposals
    • Interact with the design team members and provide feedback
      • Ella Chaudhy: High-end commercial exploration ship
      • Frank Yilmaz: Luxury craft for comfort
      • Mike Ababio: Personal cargo craft
      • Nev Papadopoulos: Family-oriented vacationing ship
  • Speak to Jules again to convey your feedback

Complete Two Missions

You now need to complete two missions from the nearby job board, a passenger and a bounty mission. Both are pretty easy, but remember that passenger missions have a time limit.

You can do all the missions on the board for more credits, but you only need two missions to progress in the story. After finishing the missions, revisit the Stroud-Eklund Staryard and engage with Jules once more.

Final Decision

In the final part of this quest, players will meet with the design team again. They can choose a smaller budget and to compromise with the design team for the Kepler S or lead a team-building exercise for the Kepler R, which requires a maximized budget.

Kepler S (Compromise Choice)

  • Class-B reactor for balanced energy output
  • Crew size of 3 for specialized tasks
  • Cargo capacity 3,200 and jump range 30 light years
  • Not equipped for combat, relying on evasion
  • Ideal for diplomacy, exploration, and trade

Kepler R (Teambuilding Choice)

  • Class-C reactor for more power
  • Double crew size
  • Slightly larger cargo capacity
  • Strong shields (805) and combat-focused with Las and Bal weapon stats of 38/44
  • Ideal for a combat-oriented playstyle

After completing the quest, head back to The Lodge and have a conversation with Walter. As a reward, you'll receive 6,000 Credits, gain 200 XP, and obtain your new Kepler spaceship. Congratulations on your new vessel, and enjoy your adventures in Starfield! You can find plenty of other helpful guides in our Starfield section on EarlyGame.
