1-21

Cropped About

About this gallery:

For this list, we have decided to focus only on movies where Jennifer Lopez appears, no matter how small her role is. For this reason, don’t expect any of her performances in series, short films, or commercials. And remember, this list is subjective! If you think any movie is not in the right spot, share your opinion!

| © Jennifer Lopez

Cropped Monster in Law

20. Monster-in-Law (2005)

Ah, Monster-in-Law, a film that pits Jennifer Lopez against Jane Fonda in the ultimate battle of "who can be the more terrifying maternal figure?" Lopez plays Charlie, a woman who, after getting engaged, has to deal with her future mother-in-law – Fonda's character Viola – who’s basically a living, breathing nightmare. The premise of two women fighting over a man is nothing new, but this film takes it to an absurdly entertaining level with all the clichés and over-the-top antics you could ask for.

It’s a classic example of the rom-com genre, but if we’re being honest, the humor doesn’t always land. Still, there’s a certain charm to J.Lo’s performance as the put-upon fiancée who somehow manages to keep it together. Let’s just say, Monster-in-Law doesn’t exactly rewrite the rom-com playbook – but it certainly offers a few guilty-pleasure laughs. | © New Line Cinema

Cropped Second Act

19. Second Act (2018)

Second Act is the movie you watch when you want to feel good, but also when you don’t mind rolling your eyes every once in a while. Jennifer Lopez plays Maya, a woman who fakes her way into a corporate job with a résumé that’s less "true" and more "let’s see if we can make this work." The plot is as improbable as it is predictable, and while J.Lo’s infectious charm and sass are undeniably on display, it’s hard to ignore the film's lack of depth.

Sure, it’s fun to watch Maya fight her way through the business world, but the movie falls short of delivering anything groundbreaking. It’s the kind of film where you know exactly how it will end, but you watch it anyway because J.Lo’s a pro at making even the fluffiest of rom-coms worth a watch. | © STXfilms

Cropped The Wedding Planner

18. The Wedding Planner (2001)

Okay, so The Wedding Planner is a classic in the rom-com world, but let’s be real: It’s not exactly setting any new standards for the genre. Jennifer Lopez shines as Mary, a wedding planner who falls for the groom (Matthew McConaughey), which is a plotline that’s as old as time itself. The movie is as predictable as they come, but J.Lo brings so much warmth, charm, and comedy to her role that it’s hard not to root for her.

The chemistry between her and McConaughey? Classic rom-com gold. Yet, despite all of Lopez's hard work to bring the character to life, the film is full of tired tropes that you’ve seen in dozens of other rom-coms. Still, it’s a comfort watch for anyone looking for some lighthearted, predictable fun. | © Warner Bros. Pictures

Cropped Unstoppable

17. Unstoppable (2024)

Unstoppable is one of those movies where you start thinking, "Is this a disaster movie or an action flick?" J.Lo stars as an intrepid train conductor who finds herself caught in a high-speed, life-or-death situation on an out-of-control train. The film, directed by a veteran in the thriller genre, tries to keep you on the edge of your seat, but let's be real – despite Jennifer Lopez’s best efforts, the plot is more "meh" than "must-see."

J.Lo’s character is tough, competent, and manages to inject some needed charisma into a story that often feels like it’s trying to imitate Speed but without the fun. It’s not a terrible movie, but it’s definitely not a high point in her filmography either. It’s one of those films you forget about right after watching, but for a one-time thrill ride? It works. | © Universal Pictures

Cropped El cantante

16. El Cantante (2006)

El Cantante is a biographical drama where Jennifer Lopez plays the wife of Puerto Rican salsa legend Hector Lavoe, portrayed by Marc Anthony (who, spoiler alert, was also Lopez’s real-life husband at the time). J.Lo’s performance in El Cantante is heartfelt, and she gives a grounded portrayal of a woman standing by her troubled husband.

However, the film is much more about Lavoe’s life than it is about her character, and while the chemistry between Lopez and Anthony is palpable, the movie itself suffers from a sluggish pace and a bit too much melodrama. Lopez is undeniably talented in a role that requires a lot of emotional depth, but the film doesn't entirely do justice to the complexity of the real-life figures it seeks to portray. Still, if you’re into musical dramas or are a fan of Lopez and Anthony's chemistry, there’s something to appreciate here. | © Sony Pictures Classics

Cropped The Mother

15. The Mother (2023)

The Mother has J.Lo pulling off some seriously tough-girl vibes, playing a retired assassin who’s dragged back into the game to protect her daughter. The premise? Classic "action-thriller meets maternal instincts" with a dash of "don’t mess with me or I’ll kick your ass."

While Lopez is undeniably solid as the tough and badass lead, the movie itself stumbles a bit into generic territory, relying on standard action tropes and predictable plot twists. It’s the type of film where you know exactly what’s going to happen, but Lopez’s fierce performance still makes it somewhat watchable. The action scenes are entertaining, but the emotional depth feels a bit surface-level. It's not breaking any new ground, but hey, J.Lo in an action movie is always a fun ride – even if it doesn’t quite hit the mark. | © Netflix

Cropped Parker

14. Parker (2013)

In Parker, Jennifer Lopez teams up with Jason Statham in a heist film where things go about as smoothly as you'd expect from a robbery gone wrong. Lopez plays a savvy woman who gets caught up in Statham’s conman world, and while the two share decent on-screen chemistry, the film itself is a forgettable entry in the action genre.

The plot is riddled with clichés, and despite some stylish moments, it doesn’t manage to elevate itself above the standard “team-up to steal big” formula. Lopez’s performance is solid, but she doesn’t get to fully flex her acting chops here, and the action scenes – while fun at times – feel a little too predictable. It’s a movie that doesn’t overstay its welcome but certainly doesn’t leave a lasting impression. | © FilmDistrict

Cropped Anaconda

13. Anaconda (1997)

Anaconda is a guilty pleasure of the highest order. J.Lo plays a documentary filmmaker who gets caught in the middle of an epic snake hunt in the Amazon, and let’s just say… things don’t go according to plan. While Anaconda has earned a cult following for its wild premise and truly, truly ridiculous dialogue, it’s hard to ignore that this movie is, well, a bit of a hot mess.

The CGI snake? Questionable at best. The acting? Over-the-top in the best possible way. Still, despite its laughable moments, there’s a certain charm to it – partly because J.Lo is so earnest in her role, and partly because you’re really not watching this for deep character development. You're here for a giant snake and all the carnage that follows. And let’s be real: it’s so fun. | © Columbia Pictures

Cropped The Back up Plan

12. The Back-Up Plan (2010)

The Back-Up Plan has Jennifer Lopez diving headfirst into rom-com territory once again, and while it’s certainly not her worst outing, it’s not exactly her best either. Lopez plays Zoe, a woman who gets pregnant through artificial insemination just before meeting the man of her dreams (played by Alex O’Loughlin). The plot is as predictable as they come, and while Lopez is charming as always, the movie itself is filled with tired clichés and predictable romantic beats.

That said, there’s something undeniably comforting about it – the kind of film you watch on a lazy Saturday afternoon with a bowl of popcorn. The chemistry between Lopez and O’Loughlin is cute enough, but overall, the film is forgettable in the grand scheme of her rom-com career. | © CBS Films

Cropped Lila Eve

11. Lila and Eve (2015)

In Lila and Eve, Jennifer Lopez takes on a darker, more dramatic role as a mother who teams up with another grieving parent (played by Viola Davis) to seek vengeance for their children’s deaths. While the film tries to tackle some weighty emotional themes – grief, loss, and justice – the execution is all over the place. Lopez and Davis both give strong performances, but the film itself is dragged down by a muddled plot and an ending that leaves you scratching your head.

It’s one of those movies that tries to say something profound but trips over its own ambition. Lopez does her best with the material, but even she can’t elevate this uneven thriller into something truly memorable. A good try, but not a film that will make it into her top-tier list. | © Lifetime

Cropped Enough

10. Enough (2002)

Enough is one of those “revenge thrillers” where Jennifer Lopez taps into her inner badass, and let’s just say – she’s so good at it. Lopez plays Slim, a woman who escapes an abusive relationship and fights back against her manipulative, dangerous husband (played by Billy Campbell). The movie is a straightforward affair with a pretty simple plot, but Lopez brings a raw intensity to her role that’s hard to ignore.

You’re rooting for her the entire time, especially during the ultimate confrontation where she turns the tables on her tormentor. While the film leans heavily into melodrama, it’s a satisfying watch for anyone who loves a good “woman scorned” story. Plus, that final showdown? Totally worth it. It’s not exactly high cinema, but Enough offers exactly what you came for: cathartic justice served with a side of J.Lo fierceness. | © Columbia Pictures

J Lo msn

9. U Turn (1997)

U Turn is the kind of film that makes you go, "Wait, is this a fever dream?" Directed by Oliver Stone, this dark, twisted neo-noir features Jennifer Lopez as a femme fatale who gets entangled in the dangerous web of Sean Penn’s character, a man on the run from both the law and his own conscience. The movie itself is a wild ride, packed with eccentric characters and over-the-top dialogue.

Lopez’s role is full of mystery and seduction, and while she pulls it off with style, the movie’s chaotic narrative might leave you more confused than satisfied. However, for fans of grungy, offbeat thrillers, U Turn offers something unique, if not entirely coherent. J.Lo is magnetic in her role, but the film itself is, well, kind of a mess – in the best way possible. | © Universal Pictures

Cropped Blood and Wine

8. Blood and Wine (1997)

Blood and Wine is a slow-burning thriller where Jennifer Lopez plays a pivotal supporting role alongside Jack Nicholson and Stephen Dorff. Lopez plays a seductive woman caught up in a diamond heist gone wrong, and while her performance is solid, it’s overshadowed by the heavy-hitting veteran actors around her. The film's plot, revolving around betrayal, crime, and family, is surprisingly low-key compared to its star-studded cast.

Lopez does a good job portraying her character's mix of vulnerability and cunning, but the movie feels like it doesn’t quite know what it wants to be. It’s a decent crime drama with some strong moments, but it doesn't fully capitalize on the tension or the potential of its premise. Still, if you're a fan of noir-esque thrillers, Blood and Wine has its moments. | © TriStar Pictures

Cropped An Unfinished Life

7. An Unfinished Life (2005)

In An Unfinished Life, Jennifer Lopez steps into a much more grounded and dramatic role as the estranged daughter-in-law of Robert Redford’s character, who is living on a ranch in the middle of nowhere. The film explores themes of redemption, forgiveness, and family, and Lopez’s portrayal of the troubled and grieving woman trying to find her way is one of her more mature performances.

While the film does have its heart in the right place, it struggles with pacing and tone, often dragging in places. The chemistry between Lopez and Redford is touching, though, and there’s something genuinely compelling about seeing these two characters slowly heal their fractured relationship. It’s an emotional film, but a bit slow and predictable at times. Still, if you’re in the mood for a quiet drama with a strong cast, An Unfinished Life fits the bill. | © Miramax Films

Cropped The Cell

6. The Cell (2000)

The Cell is the kind of mind-bending, visually arresting film that makes you go, "Did I just watch art or a psychological horror movie?" Jennifer Lopez plays a psychologist who enters the minds of comatose patients to help them, but things take a dark turn when she’s tasked with entering the mind of a serial killer (played by Vincent D'Onofrio). The movie is part psychological thriller, part science fiction, and part visual extravaganza, with some truly surreal, dreamlike sequences.

Lopez is surprisingly effective as the lead, balancing vulnerability and strength as she navigates the bizarre and often terrifying landscapes of the killer’s mind. The plot is a bit convoluted, and it’s clear that the style sometimes outweighs substance, but The Cell is memorable for its bold visuals and Lopez’s ability to ground the story amid all the weirdness. It's a bizarre, flawed gem that’s worth watching for its unique take on the genre. | © New Line Cinema

Cropped Maid in Manhattan

5. Maid in Manhattan (2002)

Maid in Manhattan is the quintessential "charming rom-com" that feels like it was plucked straight out of the early 2000s, complete with meet-cutes, a mistaken identity plot, and Jennifer Lopez in an apron. Lopez plays Marisa, a hotel maid who catches the eye of a wealthy politician (played by Ralph Fiennes), all while keeping her real identity a secret. While Lopez undeniably brings her usual charisma and charm, the film itself doesn't do her any favors with its predictable plot and cliché romance.

The stakes are low, the romance is cheesy, and the characters don’t exactly have depth. But let’s be honest: Maid in Manhattan is a popcorn flick at its finest. It’s the kind of movie you watch when you want to feel good but don’t want to think too hard. Still, J.Lo elevates it, and she makes the most of a script that’s as shallow as the hotel pool. | © Columbia Pictures

Cropped Shall We Dance

4. Shall We Dance? (2004)

Shall We Dance? might not have the soul or flair of a Strictly Ballroom, but it does offer up Jennifer Lopez in a surprisingly delightful role as a ballroom dance instructor. The film stars Richard Gere as a man bored with his life who takes up dancing in secret, only to be transformed by the world of glitzy, awkward waltzes and passionate tangos. Lopez's character, Paulina, is the tough, enigmatic teacher who slowly brings out the hidden dancer in Gere’s character.

Though the premise is a bit tame and the chemistry with Gere is lukewarm at best, the dance sequences are undeniably fun to watch. Plus, Lopez shines with her effortless elegance, making even the most awkward waltz look stylish. It’s not a game-changer, but it’s a cute, feel-good flick that’s perfect for a lazy Sunday afternoon. | © Miramax Films

Cropped Selena

3. Selena (1997)

There’s no denying the emotional power of Selena, where Jennifer Lopez took on the role of the beloved Tejano singer Selena Quintanilla, who tragically passed away at a young age. The movie, though a bit Hollywoodized, showcases Lopez at her best, capturing Selena’s infectious spirit, ambition, and charisma. The performance is heartfelt and nuanced, and Lopez truly steps into the role of Selena with both grace and respect.

While the movie is obviously a tribute, it doesn't shy away from showing Selena's rise to stardom and her personal struggles, all while Lopez’s portrayal adds a layer of real depth to the singer’s legacy. It's a heartwarming and tear-jerking journey that still resonates today. Lopez’s work here is definitely her breakout moment – she’s Selena, and that's a claim few actors can make about their roles. | © Warner Bros. Pictures

Cropped Hustlers

2. Hustlers (2019)

Let’s be real: Hustlers is the kind of film you didn’t know you needed until you saw it. Jennifer Lopez plays Ramona, the ring leader of a group of strippers who scheme to hustle wealthy men out of their money. The plot is as juicy as you can imagine, and Lopez steals every scene she’s in with her fierce and unapologetic performance. She exudes both power and vulnerability, capturing the complexities of a woman who has both a sharp business sense and a soft spot for her fellow dancers.

Not only did Lopez prove she can deliver a performance with depth, but she also turned the film into a cultural moment, with one iconic pole dance sequence that became a sensation. It’s a wild, fun, and unapologetic ride, and Lopez’s performance is nothing short of sensational. If you didn’t believe in her versatility before, Hustlers makes the case for why she’s a true powerhouse of Hollywood. | © STXfilms

Cropped Out of Sight

1. Out of Sight (1998)

Let’s be honest: Out of Sight is the movie that made us all realize that Jennifer Lopez was more than just a pop star trying to transition into acting. In Steven Soderbergh’s slick, sexy heist film, Lopez plays Karen Sisco, a tough, savvy federal marshal who crosses paths with George Clooney’s charming, smooth-talking bank robber, Jack Foley. The chemistry between Lopez and Clooney is off the charts, and the film has that perfect mix of tension, humor, and sizzling romance.

What makes Out of Sight so great is that Lopez isn’t just playing the “love interest” – she’s a fully realized character who holds her own in a world of criminals and con artists. Her role is smart, cool, and full of swagger, which makes the film one of her absolute best. With its fast pace, sharp dialogue, and unforgettable performances, Out of Sight is not just one of J.Lo’s finest hours – it’s a crime classic. | © Universal Pictures
