The Best Games to Play in Lockdown

1-8

These games will definitely get you through lockdown...

Baldurs gate 3

8. BALDUR'S GATE 3: In a list like this, no RPG should be missing! However, since we can't unreservedly recommend the current top dog, Cyberpunk 2077 (*cough*bugsandcrashes*cough*), we'd rather put another genre representative on this spot. Baldur's Gate 3 is still in Early Access at the moment, but you can already experience a large chunk of the game. Why are role-playing games so close to our hearts right now? Well, lockdowns are pretty lonely. And if we can't see our real friends, then at least we can hang out with companions in-game! And romances are also possible, so it's kind of perfect for all of us who have to get through the pandemic solo... (Credit: Larian Studios)

Animal Crossing New Horizons HD

7. ANIMAL CROSSING: NEW HORIZONS: We've really caught ourselves thinking a lot lately that we'd love to run away and move to a desert island. But, what might not be so realistic, because how are you going to pay for it, what if the internet is bad and... what if your government won't let you out of your own f**king country? Well, at least you have Animal Crossing. Here, island life is also really fun, because our money worries are easily taken care of by collecting fruits, shells as well as other things, and then selling them at a high price. Fantastic! We also have the biggest villa on the island, guaranteed. Even Unge can take a leaf out of this book! (Credit: Nintendo)

League of Legends

6. LEAGUE OF LEGENDS: Similar to MMOs, MOBAs are designed to invest a lot of time in them. However, it's less about looting and leveling, and more about honing your skills. It can take a while to master a few champions and strategies, but it's worth it! We recommend League of Legends at this point, as it is much more beginner-friendly than Dota 2. But, of course, you can try them both and choose your favorite, we won't judge! Alternatively, you can also plunge into Wild Rift, the mobile version of LoL. (Credit: Riot Games)

5. WORLD OF WARCRAFT: This recommendation may come as a surprise, as WoW is an old hand among games. But, especially in lockdown, MMOs are the perfect time-eaters to keep you busy. And with the latest Shadowlands expansion, World of Warcraft is finally becoming beginner-friendly again, as it lets you start in a whole new region and tackle the best stories from WoW's past at your own pace. Very cool, Blizzard! (Credit: Blizzard Entertainment)

Fortnite

4. FORTNITE: Let's continue with a shooter. Fortnite is the representative of all Battle Royale games here, because they are exactly the right thing for such a lockdown, with their “easy to learn, hard to master” mentality. Fortnite is a very beginner-friendly example, because it is free-to-play and something for everyone. Even if you've disdained the game so far, you shouldn't judge without at least trying it out! At the very latest, the very first victory will decide for you whether the genre is for you or not. But there's no denying that there's hardly a better feeling than killing the last opponent and winning. (Credit: Epic Games)

Hades supergiant games

3. HADES: From nightmare to hell... No, this is not meant to be a silly saying, in Hades, we literally end up in hell! With the main character Zagreus, who is none other than the son of Hades. But Zagreus doesn't want to be with his dad and live in the underworld anymore. So, he tries to escape, and we help him! Why is Hades such a good game for a lockdown? Because it's built on the fact that we always fail and have to start all over again. Sounds annoying at first, but in the process, we get better and better and get a bit further each time. I don't know about you, but we invested a lot of time in Hades, which might not have been possible under normal circumstances. Thus, it's a winner of the lockdown! (Credit: Supergiant Games)

Deadbyday

2. DEAD BY DAYLIGHT: Speaking of killing... don't worry, not every game in this gallery will make you a killer! But in Dead by Daylight, that's exactly what we're aiming for. At least if we choose the Killer side, where we can hunt as Michael Meyers, Leatherface. Freddy Krueger or the Pyramid Head from Silent Hill, among others. Alternatively, we can choose the Survivor mode, where the main objective is one thing: to escape this nightmare alive! Despite the creepy atmosphere, Dead by Daylight not only provides shock moments, but also genuinely funny evenings. Whether with friends or with strangers! (Credit: Behavior Interactive)

Among Us

1. AMONG US: Already frustrating. If you can't go outside, then you can't kill anyone. Oops, did we just think that out loud? For all the budding serial killers among us, Among Us is just the ticket. If you've been put off by the hype so far, you might want to give the game a chance now. With the right people, it's just a lot of fun to chase each other across the different maps, especially with mods like the Proximity Chat or the Sherriff mod. It's also the perfect game to hone your social skills (including lying) in Lockdown. (Credit: Innersloth)
