Following their hit title Returnal, Housemarque has unveiled the first impressive gameplay trailer for Saros.

When Returnal launched in 2021, it quickly became one of the first major hits on the then-new PS5. The dark sci-fi shooter established itself as one of the few true AAA roguelikes, challenging, distinctive, and rich in atmosphere. Five years later, its spiritual successor is on the horizon: Saros.
Saros to Launch in 2026: Housemarque Stays True to Its Roots
The game was officially announced during a State of Play and is scheduled for release in March 2026. It is once again being developed by Housemarque, the Finnish studio known for its distinctive blend of precise gunplay and richly detailed sci-fi worlds. The first trailer offers a glimpse of the new setting and shows that the studio remains true to its identity while still exploring new directions. Saros is a third-person action game with roguelite elements, where death once again plays a central role, this time with the promise of lasting progression.
Saros Blends Fast-Paced Action with Emotional Depth
Saros takes players to the mysterious colony of Carcosa, a lost world overshadowed by an eternal eclipse. At its center is Arjun Devraj, a Soltari Enforcer who becomes increasingly entangled in the secrets of this surreal place while searching for a missing person. The lead role is played by actor Rahul Kohli, whose performance aims to bring greater emotional depth to the story and give the protagonist a genuine sense of presence.
In terms of gameplay, the studio remains true to its roots. Saros combines fast-paced third-person action with elements of the roguelite genre. Each death changes the environment and opens up new possibilities instead of completely resetting the player’s progress. Equipment and resources are retained and can even be upgraded. This system is designed to reduce frustration while increasing replay value. The first scenes from the trailer showcase fluid combat, impressive visual effects, and a dense atmosphere reminiscent of Returnal, yet with fresh narrative touches.
Saros Marks the Next Step in Housemarque’s Universe
With Saros, Housemarque shows that the studio is continuing its creative path without standing still. The new title feels both familiar and fresh. Once again, death is at the core of the experience, but this time the progression system promises greater depth and longer-lasting motivation.
If the studio can carry over the strengths of Returnal, such as precise gunplay, clear structure, and an intense atmosphere, Saros could become one of the most interesting PS5 titles of the coming year. The first impression certainly suggests that Housemarque is once again delivering at a high level.
