Get ready for another exclusive game on the PlayStation. It has been announced at the PlayStation Showcase 2021 that Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is coming to the PS5. After the huge critical and commercial success of the first game, Insomniac Games is going back to New York City to continue their version of the friendly neighborhood spider. What else do we know about this upcoming game? Here we will show you everything we know so far about Spider-Man 2: the release date, details on the story, news, leaks and more.

Spider-Man 2 Release Date

Insomniac Games announced a release window of 2023 for Spider-Man 2. Nothing more concrete has been revealed yet. Speculation surrounding the release expects a release towards the end of 2023. Since the game has been revealed in September 2021, with nothing more but a short teaser trailer, it is safe to assume that the development still requires some time.

Spider-Man 2 Story: Fighting Venom with Miles Morales

Remember fighting against the Sinister Six in Spider-Man? The parade of villains was one of the highlights from the first game. The story included a lot of familiar faces from the Spider-Man franchise, and the sequel will bring at least one more major win into the mix: Venom will be one of the villains in Spider-Man 2. Spider-Man 2 is supposed to be darker than its predecessor, and including Venom only makes sense there.

That’s right, Peter Parker and Miles Morales will face off against Venom in Spider-Man 2. Both guys will feature in the game as Spider-Men. After having his own spin-off, Miles will now feature in the next major Spider-Man game. But what other enemies will they encounter? That is not clear yet. Insomniac Games has so far remained quiet about the campaign’s storyline.

However, there is one mysterious voice featured in the announcement trailer. Fans expect that voice to belong to Kraven the Hunter. This hasn't been confirmed yet, though. We speculate, that Doctor Octavius will make an unexpected reappearance. We could also see characters like Norman or Harry Osborn slip back into the role of the Green Goblin. Everything is up for grabs with this sequel.

Will Harry Osborn Make An Appearance In Spider-Man 2?

Anyone who played the original Spider-Man knows that Peter Parker and Harry Osborn haven’t seen each other for years. Norman Osborn claimed that Harry left for Europe after being cured of his unknown illness. But we would learn towards the end of Spider-Man that Harry Osborn remains encased in his stasis chamber, meaning his mysterious condition was never solved.

What’s interesting about Harry Osborn is that the Venom symbiote kept him alive within the stasis chamber. I’m speculating that when Harry Osborn awoke during Spider-Man: Miles Morales, he became the Hobgoblin and separated from the symbiote. This would allow Insomniac Games to incorporate two additional enemies, while also giving them the perfect introduction for Venom.

So, everything considered, I’m confident that we can expect Harry Osborn to make an appearance in Spider-Man 2.

Spider-Man 2 Platforms: Will There Be a PS4 Version?

Unfortunately, we won’t be able to download Spider-Man 2 onto our PS4. The sequel has been announced as an exclusive for the PlayStation 5. Guess I’m upgrading. Here’s hoping that PlayStation will announce a bundled version of the PS5 with Spider-Man 2. That would make things more convenient for anyone that hasn’t upgraded.

Spider-Man 2: System Requirements & PC Version

PlayStation has promised they’ll be releasing more of their exclusive titles onto the PC, so you can expect that Spider-Man 2 will be made available onto the PC at some point. However, a PC version hasn't been announced yet. That means we don't have any info on system requirements or PC features yet. But we expect a PC port to come further down the line.

Spider-Man 2 Co-Op: It's Better Together

While it hasn't been confirmed yet, we are optimistic that Insomniac Games will introduce a co-op feature into Spider-Man 2. The announcement trailer suggests that Peter Parker and Miles Morales will be playable characters, so there’s the perfect opportunity to incorporate an online co-op mode. I’d love to swing around a fictional New York City with my friends. Unfortunately, this is pure speculation. No confirmations have been made by Insomniac Games.

After the release of Spider-Man: Remastered for PC, data miners have taken a closer look at the game and found some interesting things inside it. Inside the code, there are multiple references towards co-op gameplay and modes, featuring both Peter Parker and Miles Morales. People have been speculating, that this could somehow be related to possible co-op features in Spider-Man 2. But this still remains speculation.

Spider-Man 2 News & Leaks

Very little has been leaked or otherwise revealed about Spider-Man 2 yet. Insomniac Games have been almost completely quiet since the initial reveal. But we did finally get a juicy tidbit in September 2022. Industry insider Millie Amand has claimed on Twitter, that Spider-Man 2 will be shown at the Disney & Marvel Games Showcase 2022.

Spider- Man 2 Game Trailer

“For as long as I can remember, I’ve looked for an equal”. That’s the message we’re given in the trailer. But who’s talking to us? It’s Kraven the Hunter. He plans to eliminate Peter Parker and Miles Morales with the assistance of Venom.
