To save you all the tedious work and let you concentrate on unlocking the best assault rifle in Modern Warfare 2, we have ranked all MW2 assault rifles for you here.
So that there are no misunderstandings: We do not rate the weapons exclusively according to the fastest TTK, but also according to the recoil behavior and generally according to how good or easy they are to play.
- Here we have a general overview of all the weapons in Modern Warfare 2.
Best Assault Rifles In Modern Warfare 2
The M16 is the only assault rifle in Modern Warfare 2 that doesn't have a fully automatic fire mode, which makes it the worst assault rifle in our opinion. The M16 can only be used in burst or single-shot mode, which doesn't make it very flexible. Burst mode is extremely imprecise and you need at least two bursts for a kill even at close range. For us, the M16 felt best in single-shot mode, but if you're already playing a semi-automatic weapon, a DMR or battle rifle is just clearly stronger.
The Kastof-56 is actually the AK-74u, which was always considered an SMG in past titles. It has pretty nice damage, but as expected from an AK, also more recoil than other weapons. Especially at longer ranges, the Kastof-74u isn't easy to use and therefore not as effective. In our opinion, the Kastof should be played more like an SMG in close- to mid-range encounters, although this can perhaps be circumvented with certain attachments.
The Lachmann-556 is a pretty good assault rifle. It plays very well at medium to long ranges and does not have too much recoil. However, since it doesn't have the rate of fire of the M4 and isn't quite as easy to play, and it also doesn't have the damage of the TAQ, it only lands in 3rd place for now. But don't be fooled, the Lachmann-556 is a very reliable assault rifle.
The TAQ-56 is actually the SCAR and finally awesome again. It has high damage, a slightly slower rate of fire and slightly increased recoil. Nevertheless, it has an extremely fast TTK and once you get used to the gun, you can shred anything with it. The only reason it doesn't make it to the top of our ranking is because the M4 is simply much easier to play and more versatile.
The M4 is once again the first assault rifle that is unlocked right from the get go, and every player can start their first matches with it. In our opinion, it is the best balanced assault rifle in MW2. The rate of fire is good, the recoil is very low and the TTK also leaves little to be desired. Thanks to an incredible variety of attachments, the M4 is also more customizable than any other assault rifle. If you're looking for a really good assault rifle that's easy to play and reliable at almost all ranges, the M4 is exactly what you need.
That's all the ARs currently available in Modern Warfare 2. As soon as we get more weapons, we will of course update our assault rifle ranking accordingly. What do you think of Modern Warfare 2 so far?
